Practical Midnight Magic

It’s the time of year when the Bay breeze tickles the leaves off of their branches and sends brilliant autumn hues cascading to the ground. As Maryland nestles into the fall season and Halloween creeps up and haunts us, the desire for cozy (maybe even spooky) nights at home turn into a need.

Every October, our sweet family and friends gather together to watch the quintessential fall classic - Practical Magic. Sandra Bullock lives the witchiest New England lifestyle that we can dream of! This isn’t a spoiler but there is a scene with MIDNIGHT MARGARITAS!

The photo above shows off our Root Candles and Mole Hollow taper candles, mini chocolate bundt cakes from a decadent Ann Clark Cake Mix, and margaritas mixed up by Catherine, our Welcome Home Annapolis store manager! See her recipe notes below!

From our collection of Books to Have by Your Bar, Signature Cocktails has the margarita recipe closest to my own.

The classic 1930s recipe for a Margarita consists of tequila, lime juice, and orange liqueur. The Tommy Margarita (pg. 200) replaces the orange flavor with that of agave syrup and also recommends 100% agave tequila (Tommy and the book recommend Herradura).

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz 100% agave tequila (blanco or silver is best)
  • 1 oz fresh squeezed lime juice
  • 1/2 oz agave nectar (simple syrup or honey also work here)
  • 1-2 lime wedges as garnish

Necessary Items:

  • Citrus Juicer
  • Jigger
  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Glassware of your choice (a rocks or coupe glass works well here)

Instructions:

  1. Fill your cocktail shaker halfway with ice.
  2. Add the first three ingredients to the shaker.
  3. Shake until well chilled (at least 30 seconds). The shaker will be cold to the touch!
  4. Strain over fresh ice in a glass of your choice.
  5. Garnish with 1 lime wedge and toss the second wedge into the marg for fun!
  6. Sit back, relax, and get cozy!

All the necessary items listed above are available at Welcome Home Annapolis! Come see us before Halloween ends or anytime you want to mix up some Midnight Margaritas!
